ABOUT ALAN METRICK

Alan “Max” Metrick is a veteran senior counselor with extensive experience in crisis communications, litigation communications, public affairs and message development based on shared values research. He also has worked with environmental organizations on behalf of client firms to establish working relationships and avoid hostility and litigation.

Most recently, before beginning a solo practice in April of this year, he was managing director of The PR Consulting Group, a New York-based public relations firm with an extensive practice representing corporate and non-profit clients.

Some of his projects included:

Alan co-founded the firm in 1993, but took a six-year sabbatical (it was planned to be much shorter) as communications director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

As part of the organization’s senior management team, he reported directly to the executive director and president on matters such as communications strategy; planning and development; internal communications policies; crisis avoidance and management; budgets and department growth; and legislative communications.

Some of his accomplishments there include: leading communications components in successful campaign to save the Pacific Gray Whale breeding area from development; re-structuring the organization’s reports to make them more effective in encouraging policy change; increasing member renewal rates; re-vamping the organization’s advertising, introducing a more reader-focused message and focusing available ad money more effectively; leading research and developing recommendations regarding the organization’s appeal to younger audience; and working with the organization’s celebrity supporters.

Between 1980 and 1993, Alan was a senior consultant at several public relations firms in New York, where he represented clients in real estate development, construction, luxury goods, architecture, and hospitality.

Prior to his career in public relations and public affairs, Alan held positions in state and city government, including citizens’ liaison with the mayor’s office and staff member of the Education Committee of the New York State Assembly.
